100″ vs 120″ Projector Screen: Size, Brightness & Room Planning

The jump from 100″ to 120″ sounds like 20%, but diagonal inches do not translate directly to image area. With the same 16:9 shape, a 120-inch screen has about 44% more image area than a 100-inch screen. That is a meaningful jump in immersion—and in the amount of light the projector must spread across the surface.

Approximate 16:9 image dimensions

Choose 100″ when…

• Seating is relatively close.
• Your furniture or wall width is limited.
• You want to preserve more projector brightness.
• A 120″ case would dominate the room or complicate delivery.

Choose 120″ when…

• Your seating distance and wall width support a larger image.
• The projector has enough output for the room and surface.
• You want a more cinema-like field of view.
• The floor-rising case can sit safely without blocking doors, walkways or speakers.

Do not forget the case, not just the image

Floor-rising screens are wider than their viewable image. The exact overall dimensions should be checked on the merchant listing or manual before purchase. Measure the furniture, power outlet, projector cabinet and delivery path.

UST buyers: projector placement changes too

With a UST projector, a larger image typically requires a different projector-to-screen position. Verify the projector manufacturer's throw-distance chart for the exact image size; do not assume the 100″ position will scale intuitively to 120″.
